| I'm here! |
[05 Apr 2006|01:43pm] |
WOWEEEE.... I haven't updated for over a year! Amazing eh? I just kinda dropped out the whole thing. Don't know why really. And now I'm back...can I keep up with it?
I'm taking my lunch break now.. So not much time to write a lot as well.
What has happened in the past year or so? It's been a rather long and tough journey for me. Firstly with work - I've worked a number of jobs since August 2004. Working with Starwon in Perth..then for the WA Electoral Commission for a couple of days during the state elections. A few months with an insurance agency in Singapore. A women's fashion and beauty magazine, also in Singapore. And now a building materials supplier. Again in Singapore.
And now I am in Singapore...where I've been since May last year. Though I did come back to Perth at the end of December till early February 2006. That's the hard part of the journey, being in Singapore. The culture shock, homesickness and all. Applying for job after job. Interview after interview. No luck at all. Very tough when one doesn't have that much experience. And the whole work pass thing is difficult on it's own, with all the laws they have. Not many companies I had interviews with were willing to pay that much.
Oh well. At least I've got a temp job right now to keep me going. Just getting used to working long hours.
So why am I in Singapore and not back in Perth? Because of one person - Xavier. We're getting married at the end of this year! Haven't set a date yet. Haven't planned much of it either. Anyways, we became engaged last October, which makes it nearly 6 months. Not very long eh? But we know what we're doing and this is what we want. I won't get into all that mushy stuff. Yeah....I've finally found someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. Not that I've been waiting so long, since I'm 22 now... We really can't wait till then...though we've both slacked off the wedding preparations.
Every now and then I'll get hit with waves of homesickness. Perth has always been home to me. It will always be home. I guess we'll be moving there shortly after we get married. I hope so. It's hard leaving my family behind, and my two dogs Tommy and Snowie. I've learnt a lot from this journey. Independence is a big one. Gaining independence from my parents. Living out on my own..learning to pay rent, to feed myself. A lot of those things I took for granted while living with them. I thank them for giving me this opportunity to branch out and experience life on my own.
I'd write more but my break is over. It's back to work.
Thought I was dead? HAHAh...here I am! Still alive and well! :oP

THE BELLISSIM' STORY OF CAPPUCCETT RED
One mattin her mamma dissed: "Dear Cappuccett, take this cest to the nonn, but attention to the lup that is very ma very kattiv! And torn prest! Good luck! And in bocc at the lup!" Cappuccett didn't cap very well this ultim thing but went away, da sol, with the cest. Cammining cammining, in the cuor of the forest, at acert punt she incontered the lup, who dissed: "Hi! Piccula piezz'e girl! 'Ndove do you go?" "To the nonn with this little cest, which is little but it is full of a sacc of chocolate and biscots and panettons and more and mirtills", she dissed. "Ah, mannagg 'a Maruschella (maybe an expression com: what a cul that had)" dissed the lup, with a fium of saliv out of the bocc. And so the lup dissed: "Beh, now I dev andar because the telephonin is squilling, sorry." And the lup went away, but not very away, but to the nonn's House. Cappuccett Red, who was very ma very lent, lent un casin, continued for her sentier in the forest. The lup arrived at the house, suoned the campanel, entered, and after saluting the nonn, magned her in a boccon. Then, after sputing the dentier, he indossed the ridicol night berret and fikked himself in the let. When Cappuccett Red came to the fint nonn's house, suoned and entered. But when the little and stupid girl saw the nonn (non was the nonn, but the lup, ricord?) dissed: But nonn, why do you stay in let?". And the nonn-lup: "Oh, l've stort my cavigl doing aerobics!". "Oh, poor nonn!", said Cappuccett (she was more than stupid, I think, wasn't she?). Then she dissed: "But...what big okks you have! Do you bisogn some collir?". "Oh, no! It's for see you better, my dear (stupid) little girl". dissed the nonn-lup. Then cappuccett, who was more dur than a block of marm: "But what big oreks you have! Do you have the Orekkions?". And the nonn-lup: "Oh, no! It is to ascolt you better". And Cappuccett (th! at I thi nk was now really rincoglionited) said: "But what big dents you have!" And the lup, at this point dissed: "It is to magn you better!" And magned really tutt quant the poor little girl. But (ta dah!) out of the house a simpatic, curious and innocent cacciator of frod sented all and dissed: "Accident! A lup! Its pellicc vals a sac of solds". And so, spinted only for the compassion for the little girl, butted a terr many kils of volps, fringuells and conigls that he had ammazzed till that moment, imbracced the fucil, entered in the stanz and killed the lup. Then squarced his panz (being attent not to rovin the pellicc) and tired fora the nonn (still viv) and Cappuccett (still rincoglionited). And so, at the end, the cacciator of frod vended the pellicc and guadagned honestly a sacc of solds. The nonn magned tutt the leccornies that were in the cest. And so, everybody lived felix and content (maybe not the lup!) Capit tut???....

wow...no wonder I'm feeling hot. It's 30°C out there today. And now I'm so sore once again. Just finished vacuuming the house, cleaning the toilet and laundry and bathroom, mopping them too, taking out all the rubbish, sweeping up....bah..actually it isn't a lot...but if feels like it. Maybe because I haven't had breakfast yet. yeah...I know...breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But cleaning the house takes too much time. And to think I gotta do this 3 times a week...Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Argh...running out of time to study :o(
The house doesn't seem dirty or anything and to me, once or twice a week is enough. However mum wants it done every 2 days. Thought I'd give myself a break on the weekend though...hehehe...lazy me :oP
I would go do the ironing now, but mum just came home...so I guess I can start on my readings...

| Shall we dance? |
[01 Apr 2004|05:52pm] |
|
Oh cool...there's this movie called Shall we dance? with Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez coming out...I watched the Japanese version of this movie about 2 years ago..it's nice! Though I'm not too sure about the American version. Original foreign films are usually nicer than the American remakes. Like that French film The Visitors, or some title like that. Though the main actors were the same in the new version, I still prefered the French version.

When thinking about it, I realise how studying business has made me a skeptical and perhaps paranoid consumer. I find myself pondering upon the business' motives for any of their actions, obviously in advertising, or even when they sponsor an event. particularly a charity event. I am reluctant to try out the new McDonald's menu simply because I believe that the target market these days are more health-conscious, thus the introduction of seemingly healthy fast food. You'll never get healthy food with fast-food. And it's a fact that Ronald McDonald is just out to haunt you in your sleep. Furthermore, they've extended their product line to children's clothing. It's not enough that the kids eat the brand, now they want them to wear it!
OK. Enough about Maccers and moving onto commercials. It's nearly impossible to sit through television ads without thinking I know how you're tying to make me feel....you're trying to make me feel bad, aren't ya? Thinking that my life will be better, easier or more efficient with some meaningless product you're trying to push. I want to be able to enjoy the commercials. To feel like I'm getting sucked in...to not sit there studying their techniques or thinking about which target market they are trying to appeal to. Some of the sleazy ones like Just Spectacles think they can pull people in just by flashing a couple of half-dressed women in the ads. What do people with little clothing have to do with glasses? Does it actually work? The Red Bull ones are great though, using humour to appeal to their demographic. The style of it is actually very strategic, aimed of course at 18-25 year olds. Do people actually get sucked into some of these ads?
Yeah... Tutti vogliono viaggiare in prima...they all wanna travel in first class. Coz that's the world today.
Oh. And another thing to be on the lookout for are misleading and deceptive advertisements or signs. I have yet to find one, and I'm sure I will be excited to see one. I will! It's a contravention of s.52 of the Trade Practices Act. My favourite section.
Damn. I think weird things when I'm supposed to be stressed out doing my assignment. My thoughts are just everywhere at the moment...probably evident in the way I write my journal entries. And how much have I achieved in the past couple of hours? All that's written on my doc file is "LAW2120 Management Law Assignment 1". Great achievement eh?

| When animals attack... |
[27 Mar 2004|03:41pm] |
My finger hurts :o| I was kinda attacked by a kookabura yesterday. Had lunch in Kings Park with Xavier around 5, and while we were eating, this kookaburra swooped at me, coz it was trying to get the Whopper I was eating...but I bent back Matrix style and let it go over me :oP But it was shocking! Xav screamed...so funny :oP Took me while to calm down and so we decided to be on the lookout for any more swooping birds...I looked at the tree behind Xav while he was looking at those behind me. I don't think he was really looking though, coz the next minute, the same kookaburra swooped at me from behind and took my burger...though I only had one bite left - and that bite I was just about to put in my mouth...good thing I didn't actually bite it, or else I would have bitten the bird. It scraped my finger though, so got a little cut to remind me of that mean little kookaburra, who's probably laughing now. Never knew kookaburras were so vicious...I was scared of the magpies that were surrounding us, remembering how they used to swoop at us while we walked to school....and the duckies.
Okkkk...I wasn't really attacked...but it was scary for a while...
And now I'm tired and want to take a nap.

This is due on Monday...and I've got soooo much readings I gotta do which I haven't...Then there's a wedding I gotta attend on Saturday....ahiiiiii.....

| Thought for today... |
[18 Mar 2004|11:01am] |
Read this on the Ligabue forum which pretty much stood out:
Un pensiero per oggi: Lavorate, come se non aveste bisogno di soldi; Amate come se non doveste soffrire; Ballate, come se nessuno vi guardasse.
Translation to the best of my ability:
A thought for today: Work, as if you don't need money; Love as if you don't have to suffer; Dance, as if no one's watching.
Hmmmm...so work as if I don't need money eh? Well, that's a thought!

| My afternoon in Perth City |

So I was sitting in the city. Feeling alone. Despite the crowd around me. Alone enjoying a nice iced mocha. With the scorching late-afternoon sun burning my neck and shoulders. The sound of Ligabue's deep but gruff voice and his songs of life, love and expectations blasting out from my MD player and into my ears, killing some cells in the process. Alone. Watching the people walk by. Some who were strolling seemed to be enjoying the tranquillity of the city. Walking at one's own relaxed pace, reflecting their mood for this hot but beautiful summer's day. Others hurry along, anxious to be somewhere on time. Perhaps to catch the next bus or train. Then there were those who walk at a faster pace, but with a spring in each step. Excited, maybe, to meet someone. Everyones' lost in their own world, though some share the same. Those are the ones who walk hand-in-hand, looking adoringly at each other. Amusing how those who share the same world resemble each other. And it's interesting how many different shirts are worn. Each with their own design and print, all unique, like those who wear them. Of course, with the exception of the sheep - Herds of noisy high school kids walk by. All in their own flocks, each flock distinguished by their colours. Green. Gray. Blue. All sheep, as their uniforms would suggest. Most without much knowledge of life beyond the recent episodes of Neighbours, Home and Away or The Secret Life of Us, or the daily doses of mass-media that pollute their minds with an endless number of unnecessary products. Unaware that their buying habits are the result of a slick marketing plan. Unaware that they have been studied carefully like science subjects for weeks, maybe months. Roxy. Billabong. Adidas. Nike. Brandnames slapped onto each back-pack and bag. Each kid branded like livestock. Screeching girls strutting their stuff in tops and skirts that could fit a three-year old - A constant reminder of how fashion and people have degraded over the past few years, leaving the fashion industry with soaring profits. More money to create cunning advertisements to suck those fashion victims into an bottomless pit of dissatisfaction with what they already have. What a beautiful world we live in...

I got my Laura Pausini DVD today!!! Yay!!! It's great! Laura's voice is beautiful!! Unless she does come to Perth one day to perform, this is gonna be the closest I get to one of her concerts. And it really is amazing.
Went shopping this afternoon...bought 3 tops from Jay Jay's since there's a sale on. I never used to buy from there...Bought shirts for Adam and Xavier yesterday...a bag for Amy last week...ya....
So Planet Shakers will be in Perth on the 7th-10th of January...I didn't register for it, so I'll only be going for the night rallies...really looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to the 13th too, coz that's when we're going to Singapore!!!

I just bought the Laura Pausini DVD online yesterday...since I couldn't get the Ligabue one. $27.95 AUD for the DVD, plus $1.50 for postage!!! If I bought it from Amazon, it'll be about that price, but in USD...so much better to buy from an Aussie site. Too bad they didn't have the Fuori come va Tour... :o(
I can't wait till it gets here...finally get to see Pausini live...well....kinda live...
